Signing and Talking

We've been signing to Tyler since he was about 6-months old. He always seemed to understand what we wanted to say, pointing to things that we'd ask him to find in books or around him. But these last two months, he has been initiating so much more in his communication. He does a few signs (more, I'm full, no more) but his speech is what's been exploding. So far, his vocabulary consists of (mostly in Cantonese): Mama, Baba, water, food, milk, ball, book, car, dog, tree, crackers, grandma, grandpa, "that one" when he wants something and "Em-mer" for Elmer (it's the name of an elephant in one of the books we read). He also learned at childcare to say hug and Cheerios in Mandarin. The latest that made us laugh was him saying "gogurt" to ask for yogurt when he didn't want his noodles for lunch.
